Privacy Policy
The New York State Education Department is committed to promoting sound information practices and policies that will strengthen data privacy and security at state educational agencies, empower parents with information, and advance efficient and effective school operations. These regulations provide guidance regarding protecting the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of students and staff. These regulations for safeguarding data are strictly complied with by East Ramapo Central Schools. District policies are Policy 4526 and 4526-R, Acceptable Usage, 8635 Information and Data Privacy, and 8630 and 8630-R Computer Resources and Data Management (posted below).
Security assurance documentation for specific educational software is posted through a public portal, Data Privacy and Security Inventory tool (DPSS). This portal provides easy access to critical security information integral to the educational environment. Please visit this portal to view security documentation. Parents can request information about third-party contractors by accessing the information posted through the DPSS portal or contacting the District’s Data Protection Officer at dpo@ercsd.org.
Parents have the right to have complaints about possible breaches and unauthorized disclosures of student data addressed. Complaints should be directed to the District’s Data Protection Officer who can be reached at dpo@ercsd.org. Complaints can also be directed to the New York State Education Department online at http://www.nysed.gov/data-privacy-security or by mail to the Chief Privacy Officer, New York State Education Department, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12234 or by email at privacy@mail.nysed.gov or via phone at 5178-474-0937.
